Ode to Cashmere
This is a tribute to our very first Barron Family goat, Cashmere. My husband had it in his mind that our family needed a goat. I was not for the idea, but Quincey and Daddy took the liberty to get one anyway. Quincey paid $60 of her own money to buy a sweet baby white Boer goat with a brown sweater. As we got to know Cashmere over the next few days, I discovered that I love goats! (News to me!)She was lots of fun and Quincey absolutely adored her. Quincey became her Mother and Cashmere ran around the yard after her and screamed when she left her side. It was fun and cute. Our next desire was to get a friend for Cashmere, one that was pregnant so that we could have a baby goat. That's when Oreanna came in the picture. She excited us by having a baby boy goat named "Star" or "Stello" as Daddy calls him. It was a wonderful herd of goats. Then our sweet Cashmere let all of the power and glory go to her head and she started getting bossy and pushing around anyone that looked smaller then her. Soon Piper and Sarger were in danger when ever they would go in the backyard. After two attacks of friends that came over we determined that she must go. Quincey was against it and was mad at any mention of getting rid of Cashmere. Then one day she even turned on Quincey and that is when Quincey knew it must be. I put an add on Craigslist and Cashmere was gone that very day. Quincey and Piper cried as she was being loaded up, but they both knew that it was for the best. I hope that Cashmere will understand and that she is happy in her knew home. Our focus now with the goats is to raise a small herd and possibly start selling them when we have about 7. Goats have been a joy and a super fun hobby. They are very low mantenance and not expensive at all. I am proud of Quincey for recognizing and being mature enough to do the right thing for the family even though she loves Cashmere so very much.
